Lore
Rune surges with the energy of another realm. The power of Obscura that flows through him gives him the ability to warp the flow of the match in his favor—teleporting across the map and banishing his opponents from the field.
Rune had a normal childhood with a loving family and good friends. He was well-liked by his peers and was top of the class in his studies. A successful future was laid out before him. But that future felt dry, boring, and tedious to Rune. He desired something more exciting than the average life and began researching dark magicks with his best friend. After school, they would secretly study ancient texts and experiment with forbidden rituals. This exploration into the unknown exhilarated Rune, and he always wanted to push one layer deeper.
That curiosity got the better of him. While performing a ritual from one of the texts, Rune summoned a primeval power from a realm known as Obscura. The dark energy surged forth wildly, grabbing his friend and engulfing him in shadow. Rune frantically tried to seal the power, but found himself helpless to stop it. Within a few moments the shadow had vanished, but so too had his friend.
Rune wept in despair, but as he did his friend’s voice called out to him from Obscura. It echoed in his head, laying out the terms of a sinister bargain. If Rune would accept and become imbued with dark powers, using them as the voice requested, his friend would be returned to the human world. But in so doing, Rune would gradually lose himself to the essence of Obscura. Out of guilt and fear, Rune agreed.
The voice of Obscura requests many things. Recently, it drove Rune towards the Pro League. Obscura directs Rune towards the championship for reasons he cannot understand. But Rune doesn’t care for reason—if it will bring his friend back, it simply must be done.
